Viets are the most advanced of the Bai Yue
« on: November 26, 2017, 12:09:23 PM »
Out of all the hundreds of tribes in Southern China, Viets are the only ones who have successfully established their own kingdom. Viets are the best of the Bai Yue.

It’s no wonder Viets called their kingdom Dai Viet (Dai Yue, meaning Great Yue) for over 800 years.

But I think the point is that China kept expanding Southward pushing the Baiyue tribe deeper into Indochina. Like the ones who stayed became the Guangdong and Guangxi Southern Han and the ones who left became the Kinh Vietnamese.

Oh wait I mean the Baiyue who left but then adopted Chinese culture became Kinh. There are those who live in the mountains that left but didn't adopt the Sinitic culture. They didn't become Kinh but became an ethnic minority.

Same for Southern China. Those who adopted Sinitic culture became the Guangdong and Guangxi Southern Han. Those who didn't adopt Sinitic culture became an ethnic minority.

I made numerous threads with this same conclusion about Kinh people.
Agricultural savoir faire is important but even more crucial is military organization for defense.  Vietnamese nationalism is shaped by warfare just as nationalism in many other cultures.  You can be prosperous but if you are not going to fight you will lose your sovereignty.  A lot of people just assume that North Korea will collapse and integrate itself with South Korea but I observe that young South Koreans have no desire to fight to protect their ways of life so it is difficult to say.  Taiwan is pretty much going back to China in the foreseeable future.  Hong Kong is a lost cause.  This leaves Singapore as the only sovereign political entity with a majority Chinese population.  I think in the long term, this city state will just merge back with Malaysia and the Chinese there will be another type of overseas Chinese.  The area is too small to function as a long term sovereign state.  Singapore cannot defend itself when it no longer has the economy to finance its defenses.
