How did Ho Chi Minh get his name?

Hồ Chí Minh

Hồ Chí Minh, a Vietnamese name combining a common Vietnamese surname (Hồ, 胡) with a given name meaning "Bright spirit" or "Clear will" (from Sino-Vietnamese 志 明: Chí meaning "will" or "spirit" and Minh meaning "bright").

We all know he studied classical chinese, he was the son of a disgraced mandarin, his family was the studious type. So he already knew how to speak, write and read classical chinese. He understood it and even wrote poetry and literature based on it.

In 1938 he used the surname of Hồ. Năm 1938, ông trở lại Trung Quốc. Trong vai Thiếu tá Bát lộ quân tên là Hồ Quang,

He started using the name Hồ Chí Minh after his release out of prison in china from the KMT in 1943, but started using it in 1942. Ngày 13 tháng 8 năm 1942, ông lấy tên Hồ Chí Minh, sang Trung Quốc

On EN wikipedia some editor named Sgnpkd added this: His new name was a tribute to General Hou Zhiming (侯志明), Chief Commissar of the 4th Military Region of the National Revolutionary Army, who helped release him from a KMT prison in 1943.[citation needed]

But on VN wikipedia, there is no such saying, nor a reason as to why he chose this name.

Is this editor on ENwiki talking bs?
He edits a lot of shwit about china vn and some random shwit here and there. I don't really believe he got his name from this.

So... how did he actually get his name? I guess it was just thought up when he was done with his journeys and returned to vietnam. He needed a reform of his own character and for motivation. Maybe?

There are other theories like his family name was Hồ all along, his great great great grandfather had to change his family name because they were ousted for corruption and ho chi minh reverted it back. Nobody actually knows though.
