Ao Dai designed for different age groups?
« on: June 06, 2017, 04:58:22 PM »
Shouldn't Ao Dai be designed for different age group?  I saw old women wearing their school girl ao dai and it doesn't seem quite right.  It seems like they kept on wearing their same ao dai even when they are 90.

I think these look OK on older women but they are all thin. What I don't get is the meaty women wearing ao dai with the cut out neck, just doesn't look right.

in Vietnam now grandma are wearing form fitting western dresses with chunks poping out everywhere. Look like Mexican mamasitas.

When I think of ao dai, I always think about young women in their prime standing with poetic pose and matured elegance.  It is a dress that excludes fat girls old and old girls but enhance the features of big bottomed and busty girls.  You can say the ao dai is an elitist garment.  Every time I drive at night on a dark desert highway, I always imagine a seductress from a hotel in California in a white ao dai sitting next to me nibbling at my ears.

I think the older women should wear darker and looser ao dai so that it can hide some of the body features.

gaden, again this lady is thin. Ao dai is very elitist for thin women. Age really doesn't matter as long as you are thin.

for older women maybe a thicker fabric like jaquar and loose fitting. think empress dowager kind of look. Can be elegant and stately.

I wish older Vietnamese ladies should stop wearing form fitting western dress, very unflattering.

Most Vietnamese in Vietnam used to be thin.  The last time I went to Vietnam I was genuinely surprised by the number of fat girls.

Maybe this thicker deeper colored fabric is fine.  But probably loose the halo because it looks too young.

no, not good at all. the material is too gaudy.

Kieu chinh. Always classy in her ao dai. something like this would be flattering on an eldery lady. It doesn't have to be brown like hers but loose fitting and more expensive heavier fabric.

I think the 70s (or is that 80s) Ao Dai looks the best

I think ao dai in the 40's is best for old ladies.  It's conservative and simple.

This dark color ao dai would be perfect for old people.

I think Vietnamese of all ages should wear the halo.  It is a sign that we are a chosen people.
