Vietnam has no slums
« on: October 27, 2015, 04:28:30 PM »
Slums are prevalent in major cities in many developing countries across Asia, Africa, and central and South America. Vietnam is an exception to this. Why is that?

i think its easier for homogenous nations to work together than multicultural ones.

look at rome. they were a pure race. they conquered because they were of one blood, one race, one mind. they only declined once they became filled with other races.

look at china, they are still pure. look at japan and korea. even north korea works like a team because they are of pure superior blood. purity is strength. if korea was multi cultural with muslims and....indians and.....who knows what, it couldnt achieve what it has done for a small nation.

the racial purity of these people gives the the advantage of caring for their nation and people. in  Korean there is the word  minjok. it has the same meaning as the word  Volk in german.

I think it boils down to cultural values. The values that a society holds determine their actions.

I believe it's mostly due to income equity and the culture of saving face, the aversion of the people to be lower class.  Even though income is low, it is more evenly distributed.  Also, social competition, strive to be better than your neighbor, gives the people that drive towards improvement.

prince V has turned into a ngjm.

of course VN has lots of slums, just google the terms. VN people are some of the worst litterers. I haven't been to other developing countries to tell. Prolly not unique in this respect but they are not noble and "face saving" poor people. Even Viet in the US tend not to care for public cleanliness. It's a bad attitude overall.

of course except for gaden, he picks up trash on the street.

It really is not that bad; just ordinary structured housing, not like cardboard and tin metal roofs.  My guess is that property prices has gone up, so the people sell their shanty homes to developers.

The worst you can see is probably this right now.

tbh, the crowded streets, full of trash and electric wires everywhere look like slumps to me.

I believe that picture is in Manila, the author was making a reference to what he perceives as slums and he doesn't see that type of scene on Saigon, even though Saigon is poorer than Manila.

The surprising thing is that in Ho Chi Minh City there's nowhere that I would especially consider a slum region.

The definition of slums are homes with no electricity and running water. There are lots of problems with Vietnam. Slums is not one of them.

It could be of Saigon but not in 2012.   The slums along the Nhieu Loc-Thi Nghe  area which the author talked about  were razed in 1999.

The resurrection of Nhieu Loc-Thi Nghe: How HCMC brought the black water canal back from the dead
http://www.thanhniennews.com/society/the-resurrection-of-nhieu-locthi-nghe-how-hcmc-brought-the-black-water-canal-back-from-the-dead-30431.html

Right now, that area looks like this.  I don't think they can accomplish all this in 3 years.
