Any member here wants to share what Tet looks like where you reside?

Not sure if I'll celebrate at Santa Clara Fairgrounds or at a temple this year.  Maybe I'll be at both since the Fairgrounds have more ABGs and temples have gái hiền  -shy

LOL, I hardly go to Little Saigon or Tet festival.

I will eat plenty of banh chung and will make a pot of mang ham with my pressure cooker.

I'll be celebrating Tet at my parent's home on the 16th. We'll have the usual Tet dishes for dinner. Need to fill up the li xi packets for the nephews. I have taken that day off so will be going to the temple beforehand.

My Mandarin instructor gave me tickets to a Chinese New Year cultural performance this weekend.

my brother's in-laws have a big party every year. I used to make lots of Li Xi envelopes but it seems out of fashion for the kids. The young kids (under 10) don't understand money and the old kids are embarrassed or something. It's like you have to go to them and hand them money they don't want. They don't wish you a happy new year or nothing.

elderly people also seek me out to give me Li Xi. It's embarrassing. I think from now on, I should go to all the elders and fold my arms and wish them happy new year.

It's normal. In time, Vietnamese Americans will no longer be Vietnamese, but simply American.

Only the Chinese are able to keep their culture through multiple generations.

That’s true like when someone says they want to add friggin ketchup to my stir fry or jiaozi I confiscate the mayo and say no no no that is now how you do, not in my house you don’t. I then present some homemade chilli oil or chopped spring onions and sesame seeds that I prepared. Ganbei.

Yes, I love Chinese New Year.  A time of pandering and doing dragon dances.  But it makes everything ok because we call it Tet.

LOL, I never knew it was "Chinese" new year b/c we never made the distinction. so it's my culture too, why worry about pandering. I notice now among viet overseas, even the Hoa Viet call it Lunar new year, not Chinese new year b/c it sounds more educated.

Commies ruined Tet.  Reason?  When I think of Tet the Tet Offensive comes to mind.
