Your avatar shows that you are a sophisticated person with an eye for beauty yet deeply connected to your heritage.  That is a well known painting known by all self actualized Vietnamese.

Too complex.  I like simple things like trees.

wow, a similar painting by her is listed on 1stdibs for $6,500 + $299 for shipping.

I wanted to support her but out of reach for budget.

maybe I can enlarge on canvas. there are online services to do this for a couple hundred dollars.

1stdibs is bullshiet.  You can find 80% of the stock on that site for dirt cheap in real life.  I bought quite a few midcentury "icons" at the fleamarket for like a few hundred dollars which are listed on that site for $5k or more each piece.

lol, I did follow a couple of things on 1stdibs and they did sell close to the price listed. I guess it depends on the item.

like you follow a similar item listed on 1stdibs somewhere else?  Ebay used to be nice but I go to local auctions more and more now.  All the small ones have gone out of business so the bigger ones accumulate old stock that they sell on a week to week basis now.  There is simply too much stuff to list it all online.
The prices on most online sites now have increased across categories but the stock of these items (previously owned by baby boomers) have actually become more numerous.  There is a real disconnect with price and reality and new sites will come to markets and put these 1stdibs guys out of business.  Also sites like 1stdibs has a zero reputation. They used words like "in the manner of" and "attributed to" which are red flags for "I sell fake works".  In the end, the hunt is part of the fun.  If I were super rich, life would be too boring.

I think if you want a particular type of items then you may have to bite the bullet or have to do major search to other cities.

I dislike and appreciate the interior designers of model homes for sale. they have to come up with tasteful décor without much searching. I'm now resigned to that fact and give up being unique. there's something very appealing to me for many years such as the white and blue look of the beach and chinoiserie look.

maybe having to do with growing up, my grandparents have a collection of old blue and white porcelain dining set.

As with all design, it is rooted in the idea of living.  What are your goals and aspirations? Is your living space a childhood reverie of safety and comfort? Or a place to entertain and impress people?  For much of my life, I approach the decor of my personal space as a place to entertain.  As I get older, I value my own personal space more.

My taste is always changing, but overall I like refined but comfortable. For a long time, I liked Hollywood regency, such as Palmer Weiss. I've always like chinoiserie style.  I like comfortable stuffed couch rather than mid century plainness.

I also like bohemian modern in the magazine but in real life, I don't think I want that style.

Then you're inundated with restoration hardware or rustic style. Btw, what do you call rh. They have that grayish, brown monotone but the style is grand and opulent without the colors.
