I am confident Japan will lose the electric vehicle race
« on: January 11, 2018, 01:16:58 PM »
and ubiquitous Japanese car brands that you see on the road today will disappear in the next 10 years.  Even armed with the news that all electric vehicles are pretty much the future, these Jap companies keep producing simplified transmission engines to retrofit to new EV designs...WTF is wrong with these people.  When it comes to business, confucian societies are not flexible at all.  Rather than abandon ship and live to fight for the future they rather die slowly.

Japan is a sinking ship for technology. The high tech stereotype is inaccurate.
Do you guys know fax machines are still very popular in Japan? And we don't see any fascinating tech coming out of there to be honest. Even Sony, I would say it's the PlayStation keeping them afloat. Their TVs are being raped by Samsung who produce more affordable ones with comparable if not higher quality and more features.

I've been to Japan and the only thing "high tech" were the electric bidet toilets. But even then it's not necessarily cutting edge, it's been around since the 80s. They have lots of old telephone lines around their cities, which gives off a very vintage thing rather than super modern.

From my observations visiting Japan, it feels like most of the middle class has sold off any physical symbols of wealth they accumulated over the good years.  All kinds of luxury handbags and gentlemanly toys, near perfect condition from the 1980s and 1990s to family kimonos and lacquerwares, lined the streets of Tokyo to be bought by tourists.  This probably coincides with the elderly dying off but these items were in vogue with the 30s and 40s crowd back then which means the oldest these people could be today is mid 50s.
