The American business elite class is very pro China.  China made them much richer than before.  China taking them on is a big big big mistake.... ;)

----------------------------------------
Marriott International, the hotel chain, wants to be clear on this point: It does not support separatist elements in China.

Marriott is best known for its hospitality, not fomenting rebellion in the countries where it does business. Nevertheless, it apologized to the Chinese government on Thursday for the way it worded a customer survey — wording that has spurred intense online criticism and a government investigation.

The problem: The survey listed Tibet, a region of China, and Taiwan, an island it claims as its own, as separate countries, according to Chinese media reports. It also listed Hong Kong and Macau — territories that are ruled by China — as separate, according to the reports.

The error is a common one, and easy to make, among companies that do business there. A simple website drop-down menu labeled “countries” can inadvertently bestow the nation label on places like Taiwan and Hong Kong.

But in China, where the government is often quick to claim that the feelings of nearly 1.4 billion Chinese people have been hurt, the repercussions can be severe. The Shanghai Internet Information Office said it would shut down Marriott’s Chinese website and its Chinese app for a week.

Marriott said on its official account on Weibo, the Chinese social media platform, that “we will absolutely not support any separatist organization that will undermine China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

The Huangpu district of Shanghai, where Marriott China is based, said on Wednesday that it had opened an investigation into the company for violating cybersecurity and advertising laws and questioned Marriott executives. Angry Chinese called for a boycott of the hotel chain.

“They are earning our people’s money, and yet they are thinking of splitting our motherland,” said a user on Weibo.

In a statement, the company said it was fully cooperating with the investigation and had updated its website and apps to “ensure the proper country/region classifications.”

“We sincerely apologize and thank guests and netizens for their candid feedback,” it said.

China is quick to lash out against any hint of support for an independent Tibet and for an independent Taiwan, a self-ruled democratic island that Beijing regards as a breakaway province and has vowed to take back by force if it declares independence. In recent years, many nationalistic Chinese have stoked a backlash against many foreign companies that are seen to be anti-China.

Last year, China forced the shutdown of more than 80 stores owned by the South Korean supermarket chain Lotte, which provided land for an American missile defense system intended to stop potential launches by North Korea.

In 2008, hundreds of protesters called for a boycott of the French retailer Carrefour after Tibetan activists disrupted the Olympic torch’s journey through Paris. Irate Chinese internet users accused Carrefour of supporting pro-Tibetan independence groups.

In recent years, the government has condoned nationalist outbursts and then stamped them out after a short period.

In 2012, it allowed anti-Japanese demonstrations, which were fueled over islands that are claimed by both Japan and China. During those marches in Beijing, police officers stood by as eggs and plastic water bottles were thrown at the Japanese Embassy. Protesters took photos using Canon cameras and ate from lunchboxes from Yoshinoya, a Japanese fast food chain, during their breaks.

What is the alternative? I don't think you're very knowledgable in trade and economics.

China's model is basically Japan's, South Korea's and Taiwan's model. They all started off making 'budget quality' disposable copycat products.

Did you know that there was a time when Japan was not known for it's quality, but cheap inferior crap?

It takes Japan roughly 25 years to change that reputation.  By the late 1970s, Japanese products competed directly with American products on high tech value as well as durability.  China to this day still make shiet quality products and they got way more than 25 years of manufacturing experience already.  In America, discount stores are filled with 2018 Made in China crap products while in Europe it´s all over the place in Spain and Portugal.  Eastern European countries like Poland and Bulgaria have giant electronic stores that sell only Chinese crap.  The process is being replicated in South America and Africa. Even though Americans look down on Chinese products, they often forget that their market is filled with top of the line Made in China crap.

Purchase a DJI drone, which is the top of the line drone, Made in China, no other companies can compete:

Purchase Kaluga Queen caviar, which is also Made in China and is used in 4/5ths of 3 star Michelin restaurants in Paris:

Purchase a OnePlus phone, Made in China and receives raving reviews from tech reviewers:

The reputation has already changed from 10, 20 years ago, you're just slow.

Well if that bag is made in Vietnam then it's made in Vietnam, not Sweden. He didn't say iPhone is Chinese, he said it's made in China, which it is.

99% of the world population do not associate any of the Chinese products you just listed as "quality".  Made in China and edibility do not go together.  Ask anyone if they want a Oneplus phone or an Iphone and it´s quite clear which one they would pick.

DJI drones are quality though. You cannot get a more expensive or high quality drone on the market.

Kaluga Queen caviar is served in nearly all top Michelin star restaurants precisely due to its high quality.

And Android users would prefer the OnePlus over the iPhone.

it's in the design of the product, culture  and   quality  control process. American companies that have factories in  china implement a quality control process that ensure  quality whereas a native Chinese company does not.

you can see this  in women fashion  as well,  items  that are American made in  chiense or vnmese factories are cut different and have different quality.

talk about stretching definitions.  No where on any of my apple products from monitors to laptops to phones does it say "made in China" anywhere.  You must be an androids user.

I really think third world disinterest in quality harms the country. It's universal not just Vietnam.

but if you want to create long term growth you need focus on building a reputation where it matters. Trinkets can be made for cheap and quality not too important but electronics need to be high quality.

Chinese culture is all about face but they don´t care about reputation when it comes to the national image.  To this day, only the Japanese live up to their reputation.  I avoid Korean products in general due to inferior designs and durability.  I bought a samsung monitor for gaming, never again.  Bang & Olufsen products just exude quality.

I have a friend that bought a Samsung notebook computer. It was roughly $100 cheaper than the ipad but honestly, the interface is not as intuitive and user friendly as the ipad.

yeah, so I pretty much stick with apple.

Even random Apple accessories like keypads and mouse from a few years ago look iconic and totally different from other products of their time.  American design was so good in the 1950s and 1960s then lost its way in the following decades.  It´s coming back though.  My first iphone was the iphone 3G.  I still have it as it represents a piece of history.  I keep all my old phones.

That’s just semantics.
Blame Apple for stretching definitions. They deliberately changed “Made” to “Assembled”. Every other company just puts Made.

Lol the user interface is Windows. Microsoft is American, and has nothing to do with Samsung or Korean products lol
