You may be talking about something else but..

There is an idiotic trend among Vietnamese youth nowadays to adopt a made up name (it doesn't even have to be western or korean/japanese, although those are the most popular. Sometimes it's just made up words) to put in front of their actual name, as a kind of alias or title.  It started out only with attention whore wannabe celebrities and teen idols, but now...

Case in point:  Nobita Nguyen, Midu My Dung, Noo Phuoc Thinh, Cookie Tien  -worried -sick

I think it's cute to use silly names much like nick names vietnamese kids get.

But Korean names? Come on, have some pride.

I totally agree! I am proud of my name. I think the hallyu wave is going overboard for some viets in Vietnam. I like korean entertainment, but that doesn't mean that I'm gonna try to be a korean. That is totally impossible. I don't even look korean either and that guy on the facebook link doesn't look like one either. It's so lame and sad.  :(

man, its embarrassing. whatever, don't nerd rage over it.

i know a white boy who do the same golly with their name to japanese.
claiming hes japanese descent, but all he wants is the japanese bushy hahahaha.

yo, filipinos do it on another level too. i know tons of filipinos and filipinas that literally change their name to korean or chinese. its frocking embarrassing.

but ya know what, who gives a sh1t.
you got losers from all different race and cultures. losers are universal.
they're not foolin anyone and yet they are not proud of their family/heritage.
when you look into the mirror, you can't change who you are.

what good is a man without pride?
a man who lacks self respect.

let them reject reality and let them live in their fantasies. hahaha

do you feel any different with transgender?
guy becoming a women because thats how he feels inside. :S
i'm gonna be harsh, but i'm gonna say if you're born a man, you're a man and you must accept the fact and live dealing with it.

so if you're viet, you are viet and you cannot change the fact that you're 100% nguoi` viet.
i'm sad because i have a vietnamese friend who cannot speak his own language, but speaks fluent japanese and moved to japan. i truly wish he came to terms with his viet roots, but his life.

We got our own lives to worry about.
so no stress,

my opinion, but thats from the heart.

I think it's understandable that kids or teens might have such issues.  At that age you're so vulnerable to outside influences and judgments, and you're still struggling to find your own identity.  I think most of us have done things we weren't proud of at that age.  But it's sad when a grown adult is calling themselves Akira Murakami and they're 100 percent Viet  -worried

I don't think transgender people are in the same boat.  From what I understand about transgender people, it isn't some fleeting or trivial preference for switching genders, it's a pretty severe pathology that can lead to suicide if it isn't dealt with.  So if they can grab a chance for happiness by transitioning, why not? Also, some transgender people show an actual physical difference in their gray matter..something to do with exposure to hormones when they're in the womb.   But I'm not informed on the topic so I'll stop before I say something ignorant -elaugh

It's the cliche fantasy.
Don't we all wanna be born perfect.
Well no one is, we all have to be content who we are.

Yea whatever. Don't really care.
Those nammers don't reflect upon my values.

If I ever changed my name, that's like spit to my mom and dad.
Our names are our family heritage and legacy.

We have to wear our names with pride.
