What is this evilness called milk tea?

Wth is this?  $4.15 for a medium cup of tea with milk that you can make at home for $0.10?  Is this the new Starbucks or something?

In my hood Asian girls line up for this stuff.  You can wait in line just to see the menu price and if it is too expensive demand a detox tea version so you can save face.

There's so much milk and artificial flavor in there that you can't even taste the tea.  They should call it milk flavored water.  If they charge that price I would've thought that the tea comes from a civet cat poop or something.

Not only the price that's maddening, you have to wait in line behind some teeny girls for an hour talking about marrying Justin Beiber.

civet coffee is actually super high end coffee.  I tasted it several times in Vietnam.  These tapioca drinks are just trendy now to go to with Vietnamese people but I consider them the Asian equivalent of Dunkin Donuts, junk foods for the unsophisticated masses.

I don't care for this milk tea or boba. I tried the milk tea once and it was tasteless. Maybe the place just didn't make it right.

I think it's mostly a social going out thing, kind of like buying popcorn at the movies.  You know it only costs $1 to make but just have to buy it for $10 to go with the occasion.

I would prefer a papaya smoothie or che ba mau, where you know it has real ingredients and costs the same too.

yep, I used to take an occasional drink to fit in when going out. Then I drink when friends are over. Then I graduated to drinking while I'm alone. this milk tea can turn into a real problem. I'm glad I don't have the taste for milk tea.

Can you even invent boba tea?  Just put tapioca starch in the tea?  I'm pretty sure people have put in milk in tea before and tapioca in deserts before.
