Were Vietnamese girls prettier in my grandma´s generation?
« on: November 05, 2017, 03:25:32 PM »
before botox, liposuction, breast lift, rhinoplasty, cosmetics...

I saw my grandma´s photo when she was 19 and I could see myself being attracted to her seriously.

Before CSVN took over the whole country, I would say yes! Saigon and South Vietnam was economically advanced during that time. So people had more money to buy fancy clothes and doing subtle makeup during that period.

I think black and white pictures are more flattering.  Besides the traditional less is more approach is actually more sophisticated than nose jobs, chin jobs, jaw reduction, and tons of makeup.

they are not pretty by current standard bc the faces are too big and they are too short.

but if you appreciate natural look then they are pretty.

The French that came to Vietnam in the 1900s were quite short as well, even shorter than some native Kinhs at that time.  So shortness isn´t a big deal when it comes to beauty especially for people living in the past.

Here are thousands of Vietnamese soldiers (more than 100,000 eventually served) shipped to France during World War I (1914-1918) to die at the Battle of the Somme. They are not any shorter than the French soldiers.  The French, as well as the Dutch, got taller just recently.  Vietnamese people with better protein rich diet will be much taller in later generations.

modern French are still quite short...

Marie Le Pen was the tallest presidential contender and she is only 5´7" tall or about 170cm.  Macron eventually won and he´s no taller than 5´6.5"

Yes French are short. Northern Europeans are tall. Even trump not that tall 6’1 but towers over everyone whenever he goes abroad.

old school ao dai had a waist pinch, looks flattering.

I think this came later, perhaps 1960 the waist starts to widen, looks more customy than "haute".

This is definitely 1970s

of all the styles here, I actually prefer the 70's version. the pinched look never look good with thin fabric of ao dai. May a thicker brocade is more appropriate. besides, pinched tend to look good only for big chested girls.

That gingham ao dai is really something though.  I don´t think I have ever seen one.

There’s a certain attitude with the slit dress over pants that is very cool.

The ao day really needs a modern face lift.  It looks stuck in the past and very peasant imho.

How about shorten the ao dai?

This one looks very professional businesslike.

The current Viet generation short because of VietCong. When they were ruling north Vietnam only more than 2 millions starved after they took over the South the whole country ate fishsauce and russian wheat.

Why is the cringe in this thread leaps and bounds above any other thread?
