korean gathering
« on: October 08, 2018, 04:46:34 PM »
I went to my nephew's violin recital this weekend. the teacher is korean. there were 21 kids and their familis. 1 vmese kid (my nephew), maybe 4 chinese kids, and one indian kid. the rest are korean.

the teacher conducted the even in english. after we had a potluck. I notice a few people speaking korean to each other but they were all very quiet.

vnmese people should learn from them. Imagine if it was a vnmese affair, they'd be quack quack quak loudly in vmese. they think it's national pride or something but it's just ghetto behavior.

we accuse korean of prejdice and xenophobic (which they are) but at least on the surface they show more class. how do you expect to be treated like first world people when you act like third world people?

Well, Vietnam is still a third world country so no surprise thanks to the peasant rulers keeping us that way. But even China, a country far more richer than us, they still behave more ghetto than vietnamese.

i used to say all the time, the chinese would behave the same way. However, we vnmese must chart our own course and not act ghetto just because it's good enough for the chinese.

I think it´s in the food.  Koreans eat a lot of spice which induce Hindu like placidity.  Wait until the medicinal effect wears off then Koreans go back to their aggressive and loud nature like that fat kid from North Korea.

Viet kieus in Scandinavia from my experience, are more quiet compare to other countries with huge vietnamese population, like US and France. It has to do something about the scandinavia societies, where people tend to be more cold in personality. But they are still ghetto in thinking, only it's subtle.

I don't mean to say you must refrain in all situations. Of course at a big celebration then go all out, loud music, drinking and loud talking is appropriate. However, on a semi-professional function like this violin recital, restraints is called for.

True, but I've been in vietnamese gatherings in Vietnam, US and Norway and I can say it's very different from each others. Viets in Norway are also very loud, but at the same time a bit reserved than in the US for example.

At least Khins have some decorum, my fellow Pinoys on the other hand are shameless party freaks. Everybody would immediately get drunk and try to hog the Kareoke machine. I know, because I do that too. Lol.

I think Vietnamese tend to gather with groups of friends or family.  So, there's not much chance of them behaving civil and tight like monks.  If they go by themselves then they would sit like a statue.

I think this behavior to be restrained in professional functions or not openly showing prejiduce is more western. You see this in white people as well. surely they would talk behind your back but never outwardly showing bad behavior.

Koreans are more reserved and quiet compared to vietnamese, but they are not the same as japanese. Koreans display more raw emotions when they get angry or sad. They are also very blunt. I would say they are like a better version of chinese.

i have been to mixed Asian gathering, mainly bc I have this long term friend from college who is twnese. she has Chinese Indonesian, Korean, and various other ethnic friends from church etc...

for the most part even at large gathering people speak English so no awkwardness.

I would not attend a large Chinese only gathering bc it's very alienating, quack quack quack all over the place, very rude.

Koreans are not that impressive in USA even though most of them came to USA with already high level of education like the Indians.  In 20-30 years, Vietnamese people will beat them on most measures of "success".  Also, I highly doubt the S. Korean economy will grow that much in the future.

I don't know since I don't know many Koreans. in that group I know, there's only 1 korean girl. she came here by marrying a k american guy. Her family in K are poor. I did have a friend in school who came from a well-off family but she wasn't showing off. If you see a rich Chinese or vnmese kid, you can see it right away bc they would always wear designer clothes and drive fancy cars.
