How long do you keep your clothes
« on: February 11, 2019, 09:50:33 AM »
I have a nice wool coat that I’ve had for 20 years. I pretty much hang on to outer wear forever unless they rip.

For things I wear around the house same thing. I wear them until they rip, zipper get stuck or elastic is loose.

For work or going out clothes. I have so many pieces and I tend to wear the same ones over and over. Now I try to wear different ones. I think I tend to hold on too long. The other day, I was wearing a dress I had for 13 years and a friend told me it looked worn. So I donated it. So yeah, even clothes ate not damaged, there’s a certain point you need to throw them out.

I wear them until they rip.  I would keep them to make patches just in case my other newer clothes rip.  Or I can use them as rags to clean dirty houses.

I keep some rare pieces but I donate most of my clothes after like 10 years.  It really depends on how much you move.  Also, heavier wools and tweeds are no longer the best fabrics for warmth.  The modern down filled jackets do a much better job and they are much lighter with advanced gore-texing technology.  I am kind of sick of heavy clothing since they restrict movement.  This means my once loved vintage pieces are now mostly out of use so they are the first to go after some spring season cleaning.  I owned about 6 leather jackets of various shearling interiors but I have only 2 now and I may even let these last ones go.  They are very stylish but are so heavy and take up a huge amount of space.
