China threatened Sweden with "bad consequences" on Saturday, after the Scandinavian country's culture minister made a fresh show of support for a Chinese-born book publisher currently imprisoned by Beijing.

In a statement released Saturday, Chinese Ambassador Gui Congyou called the culture minister's attendance of a ceremony to honor the publisher a "serious mistake" and warned that "wrong deeds will only meet with bad consequences."

"Giving an award to such a criminal is an outright political farce ... It also constitutes a gross interference in China's judicial sovereignty," read the ambassador's statement.

On Friday, Swedish Culture and Democracy Minister Amanda Lind presented the Tucholsky Prize from free speech organization PEN International to Chinese-born Swede, book publisher Gui Minhai. Gui is currently imprisoned in an undisclosed location in China.

The Chinese ambassador had previously threatened to ban Lind from the country if she attended. The Saturday statement did not mention a ban.

Sweden has no knowledge of internatonal norms like not trying to interfere with another country's judicial sovereignty.  Of course this will be met with consequences.  Imagine if Kim Jon Un got detained by Americans and received an American prize of nobility and honor from Trump what North Korean citizens would think of America if American government supported it , they would for sure nuke.
No mystery to "made in China 2025", we are just destined to be top, that's how strong we are

Sweden is a part of EU. Countries of EU are get used to supervisors. They have sovereignty but there are rules which every country has willingly agreed to follow. Also countries which are under European convition on human rights follows the norms of it. Even "ECHR-countries" are able to give the poos for ECHR:s convictions they get financial and political consequences for doing things against articles.
There is no such a thing than kissing arses of other countries around the world because articles must be followed, those are holy, those are the norms which EU-countries(ECHR-countries) follow.
Like with that rapper's case, president of USA just does not call ask to free some guy because everyone are tied to system. Society is not build for kissing arses same as America is.
Also it is funny to follow how ECHR-countries are in troubles because they made human rights so holy  :p Let's see how long it lasts before people are wrecking. See, Europeans did not know that newcomers would want to use human rights against natives but that is how it turned..
