College enrollment in Korea
« on: September 16, 2020, 02:41:13 PM »
Korea spends about 10 times more money on higher education than China on average (per GDP). More educated workforce equates to better economy it seems. Nordic countries like Switzerland emphasizes vocational training programs more than academic degrees. Students would get paid on training with certified degrees provided for afterward.

Quote
In South Korea, demand remains high for college education; almost all high school graduates attend college. South Korea spends less than 40 percent of its GDP financing tertiary education.

Quote
Totaling nearly 3.7 trillion yuan (about $520 billion), China's government budgetary spending on education last year registered an increase of 8.15 percent year-on-year and accounted for 4.11 percent of GDP.

Koreans have lots of obsessions, ambitions.

But it's at the cost of their childhood happiness, mental health.

GDP measures productivity not intelligence. South Korea's GDP is approximately 60X that of North Korea, yet they're the same ppl.

So the moral is not to trade one's happiness for success (aka social expectation) as both are quite essential and balance is the key.

Koreans have lots of obsessions, ambitions.

But it's at the cost of their childhood happiness, mental health.

TIMSS focuses on assessing pupils' knowledge and skills in mathematics and science, focusing very much on what they have been taught in school.

GDP correlates to the degree of trade symbiosis available to a particular country, and when everyone is happy, the economy flourishes and experiences growth. It always takes 2 to tangle.

TIMSS is a tool to measure intelligence. If you and Gaden were to take the same test in high school and he made an A while you made an F, then he's smarter than you are, or at least more knowledgeable.
