Welcome to Apple Supplier Bac Giang Province
« on: October 22, 2020, 06:24:29 AM »
https://theprint.in/world/how-apples-shift-in-supply-chains-is-creating-boomtowns-in-vietnam/528751/

Not long ago Vietnam’s Bac Giang province was one of the nation’s poorest regions, known for producing rice, lychees and poultry dubbed “running chicken.” That was before the global tech supply chain shifted its way.

Now officials in the rural area north of Hanoi host representatives from Apple Inc. and Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. The growth in foreign investment is almost doubling every year — even during the coronavirus pandemic — and the province forecasts the value of exports this year will reach $11 billion, a tenfold leap in six years. Residents have swapped loud, dirty motorbikes for new Honda two-wheelers while others drive Toyota SUVs and Mercedes sedans on freshly paved roads.

climbing value chain working for someone else won´t last.  It would take comrades light years from now to produce something using their own brains.  The Chinese had 40+ years of free technology theft and even when they have "the world´s largest electric car market", they can´t even produce their own batteries and have to use Korean and Japanese ones.  Battery technology is the heart of the e-everything revolution we see now.

I didn’t say that was advance. It’s just one very small step. Still a long way from giant cheap manufacturing factory China and even China has only subpar living standards that’s why all the chi coms are getting the hell out.

Why did Apple choose Bac Giang?  It's an Hmong town.  Is it because it's close to the Chinese border so that just in case the relocation didn't turn out well they will jump back in CHina?

Most of the tech assembly jobs are based in the North.  The commies did not decide this but multinational companies did since land is much cheaper up there to build industrial zones.  South Vietnam still receives a lot of remittances from Western countries and this artifically raise house prices that just cost way more than they are actually worth.  Something is really wrong when a 2 bedroom condominium in heavily polluted Saigon costs as much as one in the South of Spain.
