What to do with your parents
« on: November 26, 2020, 12:27:15 PM »
My parents didn't eat too much turkey.  They just ate nem chua,. Fermeted pork.  This year they didn't seem to enjoy Thanksgiving that much,. Maybe just for the family gathering.

I think they are thinking that they are nearing the end chapter of their life.  My sister said she will take them to VN after the covid crisis.  But there is nothing for them to do over in the US.  Maybe just wait til the end.

What should be done to find life more satisfying for them?

Best thing is to let them live in a Vietnamese area. They can find lots of social life there.

Otherwise they might be happier in vietnam.

Life goes by pretty fast living in the US.  There is not much activities.  Plus in the US, pretty much there is no one around to look after them.

My dad wants to go and live in Hanoi and stare at the lake.  I guess so he can sing that song 'Toi xa Hanoi' song.

My mom wants to stay in Saigon and go to one of those plastic surgery thing to look like Kpop star.  She don't wanna go back to her old town.  Her uncle built her a room to stay back at the old town but she's not used to living in a place with no amenities.

Well, I like to think I'd take care of them as they did with me.  I believe they feel satisfied seeing their kids all grown up and became successful, and now they just want to enjoy the rest of their lives.  It's easy to interject and think I'd know what's best for them.  But that isn't always the case.  I will give them full support what their plans are.

If you can, move them closer to a little saigon.  There they get all the Vietnamese experience with US healthcare.  And old people like to gossip so it´s safer to do so in a free country.

I sympathize with the elders wanting to be in little Saigon for the cultural aspects. However not all of us are able to provide it.

So, either they have money to buy themsleves a home in little Saigon or close by, not cheap or you buy them a place.

On the other hand it’s good for old people to find purpose, sitting around all day in coffee shops, surfing internet bring bad habits.
